Hendery knew the moment you walked in, he was gonna cry buckets heck, even a river if that's all it would take to have you in his life, in his heart and he was right as he sat in front of his window yet again, the view was the only thing different. Kun had taken him hiking to get his "mind off of you" as if that's a thing that is possible, even as he just sat there observing the daffodils sway with the wind, he is reminded of the slow dances you both shared basking in the morning glory. The cold wasn't helping either too because it reminded him of how his arms are empty, just like his eyes. But he didn't want anyone to worry, he might look and act stupid but he isn't a moron to not know how his friends discuss you like you were a thorn on his back without trying to let him know but the snide remarks Xiaojun said when he yet again stare at his phone was not missed by his ears. He knew the pain was worth it, so he endured and endured. Waiting and wishing under the thousands of stars he can see up above, that his heart would come home and warm his being again.
It was worth it. If anyone were to ask him if waiting for your boat to arrive at his dock every crack of dawn, he would say it was even if your shadow stopped nearing his one night, leaving only with a note. Still, he waited, waited, and waited until nights turn into seasons and into moons. He waited, frozen in the cold all alone for you. He would've waited more if not for the sight of you in the arms of another. There he felt the world he built for the both of you come crumbling down as you walk in your favourite cafe hugging another man's arm. It was his fault really, letting himself grab unto that irrational hope that this was one of your episodes, you just needed space from love, you just needed space but he didn't know it was him you needed a break from. He wanted to run to you and ask if he was just worth a single text of goodbye? Was he that insignificant to you that you can just replace him so quickly?
He wanted to ask a lot of questions but in the end he realized that it was all a scam. Hendery found out it was all a big scam, the whole love thingy and forever - all of them were bullshit. He believed he did everything right from the flowers to the planning of his wedding vows, just where did he go wrong? He took every advise he could from his mother, grandmother, bestfriend, even from yours and yet he was left there sobbing in your favorite restaurant. He should'nt have believed in the words of those who told him the both of you would last many lifetimes together because what the fuck was he supposed to do with all this useless plans he gave his nights and heart into? He tried so hard to replace that man in your heart, to make you love him more, to make you stay with him. He tried but in the end he failed to stop you from slipping away from his arms, letting a ghost haunt you and drive you away from him.
"We told you she was bad news Hendery." said his friend, Qian Kun, the one that never liked you from the start.
"Well, I knew that too. You're not that special" he replied with a pained smile, his grin never reaching his eyes again.
He knew that the moment you let him love you, he would burn himself to keep you warm. Let everyone laugh at him as he makes a fool of himself just for your pretty smile, he pretended to be blind to the longingness in your eyes everytime that guy pass by the two of you, he pretended to be deaf to everybody's warnings of your heart still in the past, he cried blood and rivers for you - all of that, in vain. You leaving him was inevitable in reality because you might say your love with him was a great one but how come you were the one that wrote the final chapter with a joyful beam? You burned everything down. All because you were both ready to be together, where does his heart fit here? He was probably that lesson you needed to learn that the love you had with the amazing Johnny Suh was the real deal. He was the token rebound you needed for that epiphany.
"Hey, it's me. I don't want to lie to you Hendery. We should break up, Johnny and I want to get back together, I'm sorry I wasted your time. You are a good man, thank you for everything. Your true love is a lucky person. Take care alway." that was the last message you ever sent him. Yeah, he was a delusional. He couldn't stop himself you see, he might've not been your true love but you were his. You brought him to life and kill him all in one breathe and he was thankful for evry emotion you made him feel. Even as he stops his fingers from writing broken memories fixed in the word document he opened in his laptop, he loved you still. All the sentences were dedicated to you, his favourite fairytail. One that might've not been a happy ending but we can pretend right?
"Evermore by Hendery Wong tells a story of a lone fisherman and his siren lover in a tail of tragic love, they showed the truth about love. Beyond the warms sunny beach days, they swam through the storms and waves. I'm obsessed with how warm this book feels, it's like love wrapped in a hug. It was basically modern true love!"
